Drawing on the elemental gravitas of its site and sweeping views across Bass Strait, St Andrews Beach House assumes an archeological presence through composition and materiality appearing as though it has been uncovered from the dunes by time and tide.
The generous residence has been conceived as a place for multiple generations to gather, sharing the experience of memory-making within the extensive spatial breadth of the homes interiors and its intentional amplification of, and access to, the surrounding landscape.
Natural materials converse with the homes striking context with stone, charred and natural timbers alongside the honest expression of concrete and steel continuing from inside and out. The resilience of the materials alongside the robust composition of the home's volumes adhere to both form and function with an aesthetic expression that holds its own, figuratively and metaphorically reflecting the ancient fortitude of the environment.
