Ocean Beach House

Ocean Beach, Western Australia

A002502

Anchored between forest and sea, this home captures the quiet intensity of Ocean Beach, where light, wind and landscape shape a simple yet poetic architecture of shelter, view and enduring materiality.

Located on the southern coast near Denmark, this new family home sits within a rugged landscape of bush and ocean. The design responds to the unique challenge of balancing solar access, southerly views and privacy, leading to an innovative arrangement of simple, interconnected forms that frame the site’s changing light and outlook.

A layered sequence of thresholds defines the experience of arrival, moving from sheltered entry to open living spaces oriented toward the view. Each zone offers a subtle gradation of privacy, creating moments of quiet retreat within a family setting.

Robust, low-maintenance materials anchor the house in its coastal environment and will soften and weather gracefully over time. The result is a calm, enduring home that feels grounded in place and responsive to the rhythms of the landscape.

We offer deep respect to the traditional custodians of this land and honour their ancestors who have nurtured and cared for this country for thousands of years. We pay homage to the living cultures, languages, and knowledge systems of the Noongar, Wurundjeri and all Indigenous Australian peoples.
