Lake Tyers Beach Residence is an Australian coastal residence designed to sit comfortably between two worlds a full-time home and a relaxed beach house.

Beach houses are places of escape. They invite spontaneity, barefoot living, long lunches and unexpected arrivals. Homes, on the other hand, demand rhythm routine, privacy, and spaces that support everyday life. This project explores how both can coexist within a single dwelling.

Set within the natural coastal landscape of East Gippsland, the house balances flexibility with structure. Open, informal living zones are paired with quieter, more contained spaces, allowing the home to expand and contract with changing modes of occupation from holiday gatherings to the calm of permanent residence.

Material choices, spatial planning and connections to the outdoors are all guided by durability, ease of use and a strong relationship to place. The result is a house that feels relaxed without being temporary, and ordered without being rigid equally suited to weekends away or life lived year-round.

We offer deep respect to the traditional custodians of this land and honour their ancestors who have nurtured and cared for this country for thousands of years. We pay homage to the living cultures, languages, and knowledge systems of the Noongar, Wurundjeri and all Indigenous Australian peoples.
