Albany Office is a 1920s heritage brick building in the heart of Albany, being refurbished as the new home of Albany District Insurance Brokers. Archive Office was engaged to turn a series of tired, compartmentalised rooms into a warm, welcoming workplace. The brief was an office that feels connected to its place and its history, closer to a country-town landmark than a corporate suite.
Working within the existing fabric, we developed a layout that balances open-plan collaboration with private offices and a dedicated meeting room. Glazed partitions keep sensitive work out of view while preserving the sightlines and proportions of the original rooms. The building's character is retained and celebrated, including the arches, architraves, picture rails, lath and plaster ceilings and ceiling roses. A palette of existing brick, timber, soft leather tones and Albany-inspired colour sits quietly alongside it. A refurbished front corner and a generous staff kitchen and lunch space complete the workplace, so everyday work happens in a building with a story to tell.
